SCENERRATIC instructions

SCENERRATIC* is a fun family card game which involves telling a story or acting out a scene. Each scene is a 30-second spontaneous performance.

​

The benefits of the game: SCENERRACTIC will help you build confidence and improve your communication skills while having loads of fun!

Single game - from 2 people up . Double game - from 4 people up (in teams of 2).

What you need: Scene cards, Words cards, Phone timer set to 30 seconds and a loud alarm, a pen and paper to score.

​

How to play: Choose the type of game you want to play, either Doubles or Singles. If Doubles, each person chooses a partner to form a team.

The first team or person chooses a “Scene” card and a “Word” card. If playing Doubles, there is one “Scene” card and each person in the team chooses a “Word” card. Read the “Scene” card and “Word” cards out loud. Then, when you are ready to start say, “Go”. At the same time, another person starts the timer for 30 seconds and the scene begins. At the alarm, the scene stops.

How to score: The aim of the game is to tell the story or act out a story from the “Scene” card. If you last 30 seconds you get 1 point and if you use your “Word” in the story you get a bonus point. If you break the scene or stop before the 30 seconds, you receive no points nor bonus points. The winning team is the one with the highest score after 3 rounds.

Some tips: Have some props ready that the characters can use like masks, helmets, hats, scarves, glasses or wigs that will help players get into character.

In Doubles, it is expected that one person says something, then the other person, and so forth. However, if you are playing Doubles and one person does not know what to say, the other person can continue as long as the scene keeps going and no one breaks character. Remember, if you don’t know what to say, ask a question beginning with “What, Where, Who, When or Why …” and then build on the idea. For example, “What should we do ?”, “ What’s that over there?”, “Who are you?” or “Where are we?”.

The Singles game is more challenging than the Doubles game as you need to carry the whole narrative yourself. There are NO WRONG stories or scenes. You can make up as crazy a scene as you want. The aim is to make it to the 30 seconds and use the word on your “Word” card. The fun fact about this game is that every time you play it, it will be different, with different crazy stories and different endings. 

For the more experience player, you can change the rules to choose 2X "word" cards and try to keep the story/scene going for 1 minute.
